Financial Standard reports that Russell Investment Group CIO, Tom Hanly sees institutions warming up to hedge fund-like strategies.

“He said many traditional fund managers are now using hedge fund techniques with the go-ahead from their clients. ‘Unlike before, they [investors] are more willing to give new strategies a shot,’ said Hanly.

“It seems portable alpha, or the concept of transferring the non-index sourced returns of a fund or strategy into a separate product, is one that has captured the attention of many institutions.”
