Convergence: A well thought-of theory, but a not-on-my-watch practice

In theory, convergence is great – the marriage of telephones, computers, the Internet and various forms of media is a classic example of what most would deem positive convergence; the wheel and the engine is another pretty good one.
There are also some arguably not-so-good examples of convergence: a cold front that produces tornadoes, for instance, or the euro zone and the advent of a common currency, as some might quip.
