Paranoia: the destroyer of funds of hedge funds, or not?

Paranoia, the destroyer, da-dum, da-dum, da-da-da-dum…

So (approximately) goes the chorus of the Kinks’ 1980s song Destroyer – a ditty about a guy paranoid of little green men and red under his bed.

The lyrics are certainly more than apt for how fund of hedge fund (FoHF) managers are feeling these days. Post-downturn, post-Madoff and post-redemption run that saw assets collectively halved by 2009, the paranoia of whether or not they will continue to attract investors continues to run deep.

A report released last week from accounting and consultancy firm Rothstein Kass confirms just how paranoid many FoHF managers are.
